2.     Give the meaning of the term food chain.
Ans: The relationship of eating and being eaten is called food chain.
3.     How are human beings destroying the natural surroundings of wild animals?
Ans: Human beings are destroying the natural surroundings of wild animals by cutting down trees.
4.     Name the animals that can become man eaters.
Ans: Tiger ,Lion or Leopard can be man eater.
5.     Which act has been passed by the Indian government to protect wild life?
Ans: The wildlife (protection) Act 1972 has been passed by the Indian government to protect wildlife.
E. Answer the following questions.
1. State any five ways in which animals are useful to us.
Ans: Animals are useful to us in the following ways:
                   I.            Animals like horse, camels and elephant are used as means of transport.
                 II.            Pearls obtained from oyster are used as jewellery.
              III.            Winter cloth is made from the wool obtained from sheep or goat.
              IV.            Leather obtained from the skin of animals is used to makes shoes, purses and bags.
                V.            Fish, prawns, lobsters and crabs are used as food.
2. Differentiate between extinct and endangered   animals. Give two examples of each.
Extinct animals
Endangered animals
Those animals species which are no longer living
Those animal species that are in danger of becoming extinct.
Examples: Tasmanian tiger, quagga
Examples: African elephant, golden  lion.

3. What is wildlife trade? Why is it harmful?
Ans: The   illegal practice of killing or poaching of animals for their body to gets profit is called wildlife trade. Wildlife trade has resulted in extinction of many animals. Hence it is very harmful.
4. Suggest any four steps to prevent cruelty to animals.
Ans: Four steps to prevent cruelty to animals are   as follows:
                    I.            We should not throw polythene bags in the garbage .Stray animals may eat them and die due to suffocation.
                  II.            We should not keep birds in   cages of fish in aquarium.
                III.            While visiting a garden or  or park, never remove  eggs from a birds nest.
                IV.            We should keep some water in a bowl and keep it outside for the birds in summer season.
5.Some wild animals are hunted because their body is considered useful by man. Give examples of such wild animals. Also mention the parts of the body which is used in each case.
Ans: Examples of wild animals killed for body parts are :
                    I.            Elephant:The tusk is used  for making jewellery
                  II.            Rhinocers: The horn of rhinoceros is used  for making medicines.
                III.            Musk Deer: Kasturi obtained from musk deer is used for making perfume.
                IV.            Tiger:The nail of tiger is used  to bring good fortune and tiger skin is used for wall decoration.
